So much underrated acting in this movie, especially from the extras that didn't speak english. It is the director's job to bring out the best of each actor and actress and they did a very well done job in this movie.
The actor playing the Japanese Lieutenant does a great job with almost no lines spoken in English. Tom Cruise and the Samurai are great of course, but I think this film would be missing a lot without this character or the actor's performance.
The fact that they showed Algren already posessing western sword skills makes his transition to katana somewhat believable
That primal war cry @ 1:17... always reminds me of how I need to be in the midst of life's battles. "We're never gonna survive, unless...we get a little crazy."
Like Nathan said, βTheyβre not ready.β They have failed the battle and the Samurai won
I always crack up at the, "I did indeed sir!"π
I honestly don't care if this movie is innacurate, it is an honest, heartfelt love letter to japanese culture and history, the bakumatsu period is fascinating. So many changes happening brutally fast.
This movie and Top Gun Maverick and the Mission Impossible franchise are my favorite of Tom Cruise
Man i remember watching this movie, around, the year(s) 2011-12 on my PC. Time really flies
3:24 to 3:55 pretty much the best scene in the movie. The music the camera shots everything just goes well.
When your Ashigaru flee the battlefield at first contact Breaks keyboard
While I love this movie the idea of the IJA being green unbloodied recruits who break on first contact is entirely a fiction. the IJA had already been battled tested during the Boshin war (The Shogun & his allies vs the emperor) The Samurai forces during the Satsuma Rebellion actually lost every head on fight they fought.
This is why i rarely using Levy infantry againts yari Ki and katana kachi.
When you forget to use square formation in Total War
No intimidation in the eyes of Algrin.
The riflemen did the worst possible thing against cavalry wasting their shots and breaking position but this shows how natural that would be in their situation at a strategic disadvantage.
2:31 No intimidation in the eyes of Algrin. 3:32 catching my breath.
Tom Cruise is the hero in this scene. A true fighter π
