Neo Geo is one of my favorite consoles ever. I couldn't afford one back in the day, for obvious reasons, so when I got a good job in the early 00s, I dug into the world of Super Guns and a 4 slot for the cheaper cartridges.

In 09 I ended up with a Big Red cab, 25" CRT and still play from time to time on it.

Bought a flash cart for it to play those games that are pretty much unobtainium and absolutely love it.

Finally jumped into the Mister world and what I can say is, the Neo Geo Core does a phenomenal job. The only reason I pop on the cab is for the arcade feel of standing up and playing with the stick and arcade buttons.

Twinkle Star Sprites and Last Blade 2 are my personal Neo Geo favorites which I highly recommend.


One nitpick. Samurai Showdown is actually called Samurai Shodown (no W in there) :D

I’m just dipping my toe into the Neo Geo at the moment. Imported an AES from Japan and bought a 161 in 1 cartridge and a lot of the games you listed are on there. It is one hell of a console. So much animation all over the screen and some huge sprites. It’s like being taken home to meet the Mega Drive’s dad!

Great vid. When a retropi gets busted out I always jump straight to Nam 1975. If you like wild guns you'll love it. Also love shock troopers, got it on the switch .far superior to the sequel imo x

Nice choices there! Can’t really disagree with those for my gaming tastes….I always wondered if the female voice actor for Blazing Star (“Bonus!”) is the same as for Neo Turf Masters (“On the green!” etc)? 
Did you use your MiSTer for these?…I’m planning on getting a MiSTer myself in the coming months and want to get set up with Neo Geo on it but keep reading of people having problems with getting games running on it - if it is a MiSTer you used could you advise on what format the Roms need to be in pls?…I used to have the Neo SD for a (now sold) CMVS so have the Rom set in the .Neo format, and have downloaded the Darksoft set as well but not sure which set will run properly? 🤔
