a 5 hour video talking about the greatest era in kaiju history? hell yeah
The original Godzilla is so depressing and real. Everything holds up. It's beautiful and sad. And Godzilla is HORRIFYING!
Just started watching this retrospective series last night, and I cannot wait till you get to the Heisei era.
The Showa era is my second favorite Godzilla era it gave us memorable kaijus, great writing, great character arcs, and a ton of funny memes
Okay, so, regarding Ebirah and the Godzilla loves a woman thing... I just watched all the Godzilla movies for the first time a short while ago, and the way I interpreted that scene (not knowing it was supposed to be a Kong movie at the time) was that this was the first time Godzilla ever stopped to actually look at a human. Usually they're like ants running away from him, or in tanks shooting things at him. He doesn't try to kill her because she is literally no threat to him and he's just kind of like, "Huh. Well that's an interesting bug. Back on with my day!" I never saw it as romantic. Just a pause to go, "Huh. Tiny creature. Weird." My favorite interpretation of Godzilla is when he is literally just a force of nature destroying things only because they're in his way or hurting him, and he doesn't really care about humanity as a species. So I never really saw him as looking at the woman as anything romantic at all. Plus, I just really like the human characters in Ebirah.
Very good and thank you for taking the time to do this as well. I remember renting so many of these movies on VHS back in the day.:_Pesticide:
It's obvious that a lot of hard work and enormous heart went into this exhaustive juggernaut of a retrospective.......GREAT JOB!
Emiko sobs because she knows Dr. Serizawa is going to commit suicide to protect his secrets.
That King Kong topic was awesome
42:18 Lightning powering Kong is a shout out to Frankenstein
I must be the odd man out. I really liked Godzilla Raids Again.
I interpreted "All Monsters Attack" as a fourth-wall breaking story about a bullied child's imaginative adoration of Gojira & pals. Imagining Minira's bravery in the face of bullies helps Ichiro grow braver in the real world. The reused footage is cleverly inserted, technically and narratively. This movie was one of my faves for a while; canon or no, it's a fun watch! And I agree with ya: "GVH" was a TERRIFIC experimental kaiju flick!!
5 hours of pure joy!!
Loved all of your thoughts and opinions on the showa era of Godzilla! Can’t wait to see the next eras
When Mister Tako flies out by helicopter to see King Kong on the raft in 'King Kong vs Goji,' he is wearing a military uniform and carrying what looks like an Arisaka rifle. I have always wondered what atrocities he committed in WW2 that prepared him for a career in the television industry. Or the pharmaceuticals field, for that matter. Godzilla loading up that big punch to Hedorah's eye is one of the best camera shots of the whole Showa era. What killed the Seatopians as a credible danger for me is that their leader looks like Tim Conway with a Hilter mustache.
Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) I's the peak of the Showa era of Godzilla films. Nothing beats the 1954 classic Gojira but, Mothra vs, Godzilla comes very close. The MosuGoji suit is my favorite Godzilla design.
What a fantastic prevention. Wow. Thank you.
this video goes so insanely hard
this will be the only video i watch for the rest of the week
