I love this movie, it’s so Buddhist. Live in the moment, be disciplined, nothing in life is beneath you. Little things make your life so beautiful.
I saw it today, and it was..."a whole vibe." Chillest movie of all time. It felt relatable, and yet something to aspire to. ...It made me feel like solitude is a perfectly viable path in life, and that there's nobility in simply providing for one's self and providing a service to society. It's okay to exist, and to sit & notice and to absorb, to breathe and go about your way.
Why did this trailer make me tear up? I haven't even seen the movie yet
Perhaps many people missed it but his connection with the tree shown through the photos and the dreams he had about it actually depicts that he sees himself in that tree, that tree almost similarly interacts with the environment around it the way he does, without saying anything just observing the beauty around it and just going about its daily routine, that is being a normal simple tree. Like the way they showed Koji’s daily routine life.
This film was like therapy for the modern day people who have forgotten how to live in the present, how to do just one thing at a time and experience joy from it ❤
I got to see this movie early at the Virginia Film Festival and it’s the best movie of the year. Y’all are in for a treat. It’s like it was made for me. I haven’t been this affected by a movie in quite some time.
Just watched it and felt a sense of peace I didn’t think I’d feel from a film. Awesome, like 9 out of 10!
Had the pleasure of seeing this at Cannes... absolutely sensational and deeply moving film! A must watch
Watched this at a film festival after standing for 3 hours in a queue. Totally worth it! Go seek it in cinema!
Who knew watching a toilet cleaner's everyday life would be therapeutic. It was like being there, enjoying the simple things in life like eating at the park. I watched this at home and it gave me that "cozy" feeling. Plus, those public facilities are a work of art! We don't have those in our country as far as I know. My favorite is the one that turns opaque and transparent.
The scene with his sister was SO well written and acted.... With the minimum of lines and the incredible facial expressions, we could understand what he had escaped from, what he was never returning to, why he and his sister were different, what the relationship with his father was, how his sister perceived him (with a complex mixture of envy, disdain, sorrow, regret, and more...). Just amazing.
心の糧となる味わい深い映画でした。感謝申し上げます。 67歳の映画大好き万年少年より 2023.12.28
Performance of little words, but there are many expressions that Koji Yakusho makes in this film that will stick with you for a long time.
His days were indeed perfect, colors, music, work, sauna, photography and cassette tapes brought extra joy to this daily routine. This is another great example of celebration of life in Japan, a country with one of the highest qualities of life in the world and yet many sadnesses and stresses created by people's thoughful minds. "Drive my car" and "Broker" are another amazing celebrations of life in Japanese cinema, with "Broker" being a South Korean film written, edited and directed by Japanese filmmaker.
the ending of the movie, how he was smiling and holding tears in the same time, i feel like the main character feels the solitude, but in the same time he wants to forget about it by smiling and enjoying the little things about his life, bcs if he didn't he would be sad.. and the scene when he cried after his sister and her daughter left, it showed how he was most happy when she was with him
Just through this trailer I can tell how beautiful this story/film will be ❤
I've seen this movie at least 10 times now thanks to AppleTV and trust me the ASMR is the best thing about this movie. I've never had a movie that's worth so much meaning and simplicity that it became like white noise to me at this point when I go to sleep.
Such a gorgeous movie about the poetry of everyday life
This film is special. While watching it, I comfortably felt to be inside its world.
