“Rehashed relic” you guys realize the AR15/M4 platform was originally developed in the 50s and most modern short stroke piston rifles like the G36, FNC, FAMAS, HK416 etc are derived from the AR18 which was designed in the 60s
Ar 15 invented in 1959-still in use. m2 invented in 1933
AK is still an AK shocker?
Rehashed relic. Come on now. In military terms that means effective procurement, streamlined integration and the good old "if it aint broke dont fix it" M2 browning im looking at you.
But it works. And it didn't cost billions in government trials.
Stupidly biased title, is the sig spear a "relic"? That's derived from a 1950's platform
If the overall thing works who cares if the idea is based on something old as long as it foundationally on a proven foundation?
We had the plastic SA80 mags in Afghanistan, I can truly say I never looked at the how many rounds were in the mag, once being fire, just waited for silence😄. but it is a good addition I suppose.
And it's still better than the disaster that is the Sig Spear 😅
The sa80 was a rehashed relic but I doubt bfbs would say the same
rehashed relic sounds like the sa80
This is a hilarious assessment considering the billions wasted on the M7 which is gearing up to be another M14 debacle. Barrels that are no longer providing accuracy after 2000 rounds, the fact the troops who used it in a combat simulation had to have relays of troops scrounging whatever they could find because troops could not carry enough which meant that the average trooper was carrying less rounds than with the m4 - i believe an army captain Braden Trent has written a report that lists the issues they have experienced. With AK12 its ironing out a few bugs on a tried, tested and trusted platform not re-inventing the wheel with dubious results.
I have seen elsewhere that some of the latest production AK-12s are camo painted at the factory, I believe the one in the video is an example of this
Usual boolocks, all you need is reliability, and remember the lead comes out the thin end.
"Hopefully they now have these issues sorted..." No. Hopefully they now make these rifles out of chocolate.
My relic works just fine thanks..😂 As does my L1A1....
Theyre doing it for the AK15 as well. AK15K and AK15SK
They probably think future weapon have lcd touchscreen for any function like safety and selector, AI for aiming, talk back system, find my gun feature, and of course organic bullet.
It doesn't have to be new, as long as it reliably perforates people at short to medium range. I've seen the AK tested by gun tubers, such as 9-Hole Reviews and they've actually liked it. It's comfortable to shoot, quite accurate to 300 meters and capable of hitting a man up to 700 meters away, if the shooter is good. It's a bit heavier than the AR, but by no means is it a bad gun. As for relic status, the AR platform goes back all the way to the M16, which first saw use in Vietnam, so the basic design is now about 60 years old. That means the Americans and a lot of NATO countries are running a relic as well. There are even older designs still in daily use, such as the German MG3, which is just a slightly streamlined version of the MG42 of WW2, which is just a cheaper version of the MG36, which entered service in 1936. That's almost 90 years of active service. Today, most machine gun designs are largely based on the same 90 year old operating principles, so it's more than likely, the MG36 design will continue to go strong until we all start using laser guns, disintegrator beams or whatever. So, the age of the platform doesn't matter, as long as it gets the job done.
