Yes they definitely made kion up for lion guard cause otherwise I don’t think they would wait 17 years to introduce him to lion king universe but I still view lion guard as canon

To be fair The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride was released back in 1998 before The Lion Guard Series was released in 2015 with Kion introuduced as Simba's son. Plus Kion and his friends were on a very long journey to the Tree of Life to help heal Kion from the venom bite by Ushari which result of having a scar on his face, while at the same time the event of The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride took place. Althought I know Nika died during the movie while Kion and his lion guards were away but he wasn't mentioned of his death in 'Return to the prideland' while Kouv and Kiara explain of Zira's death to Kion after he and friends returned.

I dont think the creators actually even considered kion at all to be honest, his character was only thought of after lion king 2 it's only after they realised that his existence impuded on the story being told did they think of the tree of life plot to fix the massive pothole being created.

Obviously Kion and his friends were simply away during Zira's attacks. Plus as stated, it was a long journey getting to the Tree of Life. And even after Kion arrived, he and his friends stayed there for quite some time. So they really justified his absence in the second movie. And btw, Vitani is Kovu's older sister

I love that they knew they'd have to write Kion out of LK2 somehow, and they actually thought up of one that was a good reason story-wise. I also like to think that Kion's therapeutic healing methods were reflecting Buddhism lessons. It makes sense because the Tree of Life was located in India. I'd also say method is exactly what an anxious teenager needs.

They didn’t mention him in the movie because it was made way before they even thought of The Lion Guard as being a thing. They just managed to find a way to fit his absence into the show.

You also see Kion in Mufasa at the end born and Kiera is still a small cub so both were in lion 2 but Kion off screen

He wasn’t in the lion guard due to Disney probably thinking of making the lion guard way after the realise of lion king 2.. also if he was he would most likely be a main character but the movie is revolved around kiara
