How do you still get through with an ADHD child to listen, pay attention and just doesn't act upon these "short 1-step tasks" or throws tantrums in social and school settings? How do you combat the issues of having shut downs when explaining to a child that doesn't want to listen? This sounds rather of what a child does but I deal with a much more serious issue with it. What other techniques are available than just going straight to a doctor and then saying medication? My husband and I have changes approaches, act vs consequences option, explained very small short reasons to explain how people respond to things our child does but doesn't take into consideration for other children, listing short rules for our child to follow. We have seen regression in the.past couple years with COVID happening and having an IEP hasn't helped, at-home distance learning does nothing. We are at our tether and are running out of options. So those with ADHD children, please.provide insight or speaking from a psychology stand point since your information hasnt given any sense of relief in understanding this and how we can grow and develop effectively.

I'm curious why ADHD needs to be evident before 12? Why it's not developed in adults? Why we don't know the causes but will diagnose it? Also the idea that it mostly involves school work and it's common to over diagnose our young boys?

Seems a little fishy too me...
