You dont seem to count the huge cpap failure rate
I have had my inspire for over a year now. My AHI was over 39 but now is around 7. Yes it’s not below 5 like you were talking about in your video but my over all health has improved tremendously. I would highly recommend that anyone with sleep apnea make an appointment with your ENT and see what inspire can do for you.
Great video mate, brutal but great. I've sent inspire about 5 emails just asking if they'd like to provide with some info / documentation maybe even a demo device but all i heard was crickets. I'm kind of glad now after watching your vid. I think the only thing i would add / slightly disagree with is considering the relatively low compliance rates of CPAP and also the few successful treatment options available for OSA it's good to have just another option people can consider and judging from a few of the comments below some people have had some success which is great for them. I did love the "Knock your sweet little ass out!" bahahaha and the electrical zapping noises lol. CPAP Fan boy! hahahaha. I love it. All the best legend. Nicko xo
I would have to exhaust all non-invasive/non-surgical options before considering the Inspire device. For those who opted for the Inspire device, it would be interesting to hear what other sleep-apnea treatments they tried prior to the implant and if those options failed and/or were they unable to tolerate them.
I agree 100%. I went and spoke with a certified Inspire doctor (after pulling teeth with Tricare insurance to even cover the office visit) and we decided it’s definitely not for me. It was great cause he was a sleep doctor and a surgeon. He said most surgeons love doing the Inspire implant cause they get paid, but the sleep docs will either recommend or not recommend it. He saw I was 100% CPAP compliant and had a non treated AHI of 61.3 and with CPAP therapy I average an AHI of .3 - .5. He said I would be lucky to have an AHI of 14 with the Inspire. No where near my current AHI under CPAP therapy. So I bounced and said, no thanks doc!!
I’ve had Inspire for 6 years. If I had listened to this person I’d be dead by now. Inspire brought my life back. Saved my life. My apnea went from 29 down to 4. Please speak to your doc. Don’t listen to someone who doesn’t have the device. This video is to install fear in you. Do your own research. Based on the conversation with your doc. Talk to other real experts patients.
I have CONSTANT swollen sinuses, Cpap did not work for me. The mouthguard, is not fun either, my fiancé does state that my snoring has been greatly reduced, but I STILL wake up EVERY 20 min to an hour. I have my Inspire surgery in about a month. IF a cpap works for you, great. IF the mouth guard helps, great. I just want to sleep.....
After waking up choking on my tongue gasping for every ounce of air now 3 times, I’m back on a search for help. Saw a video regarding those results from the study saying that it lowers to a 9 and thought the same. I already did a surgery in 2009 with “pillars” that were supposed to stiffen the tongue and I continue to still fight this battle. My primary doc mentioned this to me. Have a consultation next week. Thanks for your mound of information I can discuss with them.
I've been on CPAP since 2017 and my biggest issue is I'm constantly getting leaks, mask shifting whenever I sleep and it causes me to wake up several times a night or subconsciously I rip it off of my face either way I'm losing sleep and trust me I've tried full face and nasal pillow mask...no dice....I'm currently in the beginning stages to see if I'm viable for the Inspire and me sleeping with the benefit of keeping my airway unobstructed and no more mask...I'm all for it
Thank you so much, I really appreciate hearing these details. This really makes me motivated to try to work harder to problem solve my masks issue rather than resort to surgery. Excellent discussion!
CPAP doesnt work for everyone. Its another option for people. Just plugging your own stuff
I hated the cpap so I’m happy with inspire. I’ve had it two months and have better sleep, no snoring, more energy and in not dragging all day. There are certain qualifications to make sure this is for you.
I love my inspire! I hated cpap. I turn my inspire on it comes on 30 minutes later, I am normally a sleep. If the inspire wakes you up, it's at the wrong settings. I have had mine for 3 months, no more snoring. I will take my sleep test in a couple of weeks.
I have many concerns and comments regarding your video. You have misinformation in your video. Some people, including myself, cannot tolerate CPAP. I had used one for about 2 years and hated every minute of it. The problems I had were that it was very uncomfortable, no matter what type of mask I used. I ended up with a nasal mask that actually separated the cartilage from the bone in my nose. It would dry my mouth out severely to the point of having absolutely NO moisture in my throat or mouth, even with the humidifier on. I would turn the humidity up and it would pool in the hose. I tried drinking a lot of water and using dry mouth treatments and none of it helped. I could not sleep all night with it on. If I was lucky, I would get about 3 hours of sleep. The air leaked out all the time and dried out my dry eyes even more, which was very uncomfortable. Given all of this, I explored the oral device. I was not a candidate because my jaw doesn't move forward enough. That left Inspire. I went to the ENT and had the endoscopy. Yes, it is drug induced, but you didn't mention that they look for which way the airway closes. The airway has to close front to back in order for Inspire to work. If the airway closes in a circular direction, you would not be a candidate. Mine did close in the correct way, so I was a candidate. I had my Inspire put in June of 2020. It was the best decision I could have ever made!!!! Once it was activated, even though it wasn't at what I call a therapeutic level, I did sleep all night and felt so much better the next day. My sleep study before Inspire was 30 episodes per hour with my oxygen level dropping to 89%, After Inspire, with the follow up sleep study, I had 0 episodes and my oxygen level remained between 98-100%. Inspire has saved my life!!!! I have so much more rest now and feel so much better throughout every day. In your video you talked about how awful the stimulation would feel. Well, most of the time, I don't even feel it. There is a delay so that you have time to fall asleep prior to the stimulation starting. Once you're asleep, it does what it is designed to do...keep your airway open and allow you to sleep normally without something strapped to your head. In your video, you also appeared to indicate that Inspire is placed on the left chest; it is placed on the right and the lower lead doesn't go to the diaphram, it goes in between the ribs so that it detects when the rib muscles contract. Now this lead is often placed below the generator device. I would suggest you attend one of the many online webinars and listen to the doctor that is presenting. You would have an opportunity to ask questions and get correct information.
I was at a 90! Cpap was a no go so tried a bi-pap...nope! Bi-pap only dropped me to 50-52 events! If not Inspire, then what?!!
I have a friend who is considering this. I just sent her the link. Very timely video and thank you!
I considered it and then read it's requirements and realized it's for a minority of patients. People ignore the fact that a large portion of patients are overweight. And often the weight causes the issue to begin. So that eliminated me. I've lost 50 lbs with more to go. They should be required to properly advertise the requirements instead of barely mentioning them and acting as if it works for everyone. The company seems more concerned with the profits than the patient.
To those that have done the CPAP route and not gotten the results that you needed there is also something to consider. I'm in the process of getting a DISE procedure done to examine my airway and they suspect I may have a collapsing epiglottis. If you're epiglottis is collapsing CPAP can actually make this worse as the CPAP could be pushing the epiglottis down blocking your airway. I tried pressures between 5-17cm, multiple masks, tape, scunci bands and still getting subpar sleep.
Always the voice of reason. Thank you.
