Small induction motor & jigsaw gearbox - filing machine

13th June 2015, I am building a small filing machine to help me clean up my aluminium castings, The gearbox was taken from an old Black & Decker jigsaw, the electric motor is a Parvalux induction motor (1400rpm 4 pole 86 watt), I have taken the splined motor shaft from the Black & Decker jigsaw motor and adapted it to fit the small Parvalux motor using my workshop press to press the parts together so that the Parvalux motor can now drive the jigsaw gearbox smoothly and quietly! (it will be quieter once I pack the gearbox with some grease lol), The original motor which powered the jigsaw gearbox was far too noisy! sounding like a drill (as most universal motors do!) and also the speed of that brushed universal motor was way too fast! for this filing machine project. (too fast = files clog easily when filing aluminium! - slow speed = better performance) - The machine is not yet finished but it should do the job nicely when its up and running. The files it takes will be standard Warding Files and the gearbox/motor will be mounted under a small portable platform (like a router table, or on the style of a bobbing sander) with the file coming through the table and pointing upwards where it can be used to file away inside the work piece or in tight corners where it will file the work piece true and square.
