Take a moment to imagine that you are expecting a child, but your partner won’t be able to be present for their birth. Now, imagine you’re in middle school and you’re starting at a new school for the fourth time, alone and without friends or connections. For most of us, these are situations we would never choose to partake in. For American military personnel and their families, these situations are just a small example of the sacrifices they are regularly making to serve our country - sacrifices that they need support through. Are you with them?
The USO is with them. Since 1941, we have gone where no other non-profits can, to make service members and their families feel supported and understood. From the moment they enlist, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back into their communities, the USO is with them every step of the way.
The USO serves as a beacon of hope and support for those who sacrifice so much for our country. With over 250 locations worldwide, we offer a warm welcome and a sense of community for over 4.9 million service members and their families.
Our new public service announcement (PSA) campaign not only asks the question “Are you with them” but also depicts real-life scenarios those serving in the U.S. military and their families are faced with. This campaign helps to put your audience into the shoes of those directly impacted by military duty, so more Americans can empathize with the relatable challenges that impact those who serve. The campaign tells these stories:
A) an expecting mother whose military husband will not be home for the birth of their child, who gets support from her community via the USO
B) a service member who is leaving behind his young daughter to serve his country but who is able to stay close with her throughout his deployment via support from the USO
C) a young boy, struggling for the fourth time to make new friends after another military move, who the USO helps through another transition
D) a group of deployed military personnel who are able to enjoy celebrating a holiday together even though they are away from their families, via support from the USO.
It can be easy to forget that even the strongest among us need someone there for them – the USO is with them. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who selflessly serve our country. Are you with us?
